L\u2019Avvento e\u0300 un periodo di attesa, di promesse, di speranza, non un Natale prolungato. Percio\u0300 mi sento sempre un po\u2019 spaesata in questo periodo, nel quale ci viene suggerito di festeggiare il Natale per settimane come evento sentimentale e soprattutto commerciale. Nonostante tutto amo questa stagione e sono convinta, quest\u2019anno piu\u0300 che mai, che abbiamo bisogno di rassicurazione, di luce, di momenti di festa.<\/p>\n
Le voci che ci parlano nei testi proposti per il tempo dell\u2019Avvento sono consolatrici, ma anche forti ed esigenti, vogliono scuoterci e svegliarci affinche\u0301 possiamo scoprire i modi nei quali Dio \u00e8 con noi, gia\u0300 ora e nonostante tutto. Siamo invitati e invitate ad ascoltare le parole profetiche, ma insieme anche i bisogni urgenti del nostro mondo, bisogno di guarigione e di riconciliazione, di accoglienza e di giustizia.<\/p>\n
Le voci dei profeti insistono: \u201cvegliate, ravvedetevi perche\u0301 il regno di Dio e\u0300 vicino\u201d… \u201cDio ha abbassato i potenti e rialzato gli umili…\u201d. Ma Giuseppe, protagonista in Matteo 1, non e\u0300 una di loro. Non parla. Ascolta. Si sveglia, scosso da un sogno che lo invita a trasgredire le usanze, cioe\u0300 a non abbandonare ma ad accogliere Maria in attesa. Cosi\u0300, in silenzio, pure lui compie un gesto profetico (probabilmente senza aver capito fin in fondo), fedele e ubbidiente alla promessa:<\/p>\n
Un bambino nascera\u0300, Emmanuel, Dio con noi.<\/p>\n
Cerchiamo di non stancarci in questa situazione incerta, di non scoraggiarci davanti a cio\u0300 che non comprendiamo.
\nStiamo invece in silenzio, in ascolto sia delle parole profetiche sia gli uni delle altre. Attendiamo di essere guidati dallo Spirito, fiduciosi che Dio visitera\u0300 ancora questo nostro mondo e sara\u0300, in tanti sorprendenti modi, Emmanuel, Dio con noi.<\/p>\n

As Christians who celebrate Advent, not one long celebration of Christmas, but Advent, we can find ourselves a bit out of step with the culture around us, since the way this period is celebrated both sentimental and commercial. Anyway I love this time, and I\u2019m sure we need \u2013 today even more – certainness, light and hope.<\/p>\n
The voices speaking to us out of the Bible texts for Advent are comforting but together also strong and urgent, looking to shake us awake so that we are alert and ready and watching out for the ways that God is with us.<\/p>\n
Especially in this period we are invited to listen to these prophetic voices and together to the urgent needs of our world, need of healing and reconciling, of justice and welcoming.<\/p>\n
The prophetical voices are insisting. \u201c keep awake, repent, for the kingdom is near… God has brought down the powerful and lifted up the lowly…\u201d but Joseph, protagonist in Matthew 1 is not one of them. He\u2019s not speaking. He\u2019s listening, shaked awake in a dream, invited to brake rules while being faithful and obedient in the promise: A child will be born, Emanuel, God with us.<\/p>\n
In this period let\u2019s listen both to prophetical voices and to the needs of our neighbours. Let\u2019s be quiet and just listen for the Spirit\u2019s leading, through the scripture, through dreams, through others. And let us trust, in all our difficulties and doubts, that God is with us and with this world, in so many ways. With that sense of trust and conviction let us prepare to celebrate the birth of Emanuel, of our Lord.<\/p>\n
